Breaking Out

Posted on February 24, 2009. Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: , , , |

There are four basic reasons why or how someone would break out of the cycle of poverty:

1.  They have a goal or a vision for their life (beyond their means or current situation)

2.  They are in a situation so painful that anything is better

3.  They have a special talent or ability

4.  Someone sponsors them: a coach or a mentor.  Not necessarily monetarily sponsoring, but loving and emotionally supporting and sponsoring them.

How can we help kids hit one of these four things?

ASK them what they want to be when the grow up, get them thinking beyond their immediate world

LEARN about their lives and interests, pinpoint talents or gifts to build upon

LOVE and respect them emotionally and deeply, be their tie to the greater world.
